Day 4 (Mahengetang, Sangihe): Potential Dive sites Include Mahengetang Island Banua Wuhu is one of the most unique diving locations in the world. Situated in Mehengetand in Indonesia, divers have the chance to safely experience a dive in one of the only active underwater volcanoes in the world. Mahengetang is located between Siau and Sangihe Islands and rises up 400 meters above the sea bed. Surrounded by colourful humphead parrotfish and gigantic sea sponges, you’ll notice an expanse of large rocks nearby that are covered in sulphur and give off small bursts of volcanic gases. These small but very hot bubbles quickly make their way to the surface, which really adds to the excitement of diving in a volcano, even though it hasn’t erupted since 1968. You’ll also have the chance to spot schools of neon fusiliers and black tipped reef sharks. Sangihe Another large volcano comprises the southern end of Sangihe island. A huge variety of marine life awaits with chances of seeing bigger visitors such as hammerheads, rays, reef sharks and dolphins. The northwest of Sangihe has a dive site called Lost City named after a village that was submerged by an earthquake in 1963. Expected Species: Macro critters like flamboyant cuttlefish, mimic octopuses, hairy frogfish Day 5 (Siau): Potential Dive Sites Siau Island The Karangetang volcano can be seen glowing from the crater at night, it is one of Indonesia's most active. Impressive marine life can be found here and at Batu Lehi which offers a wall dive and beach hot spring Mahengetang Island Walls covered in gorgonian fans, hammerhead sharks, eagle rays, schools of tuna Mahoro Island Vibrant coral reefs, napoleon wrasses, whitetip reef sharks, turtles Day 6 (Biaro): The first in the island chain, recognised by a sheer 200 meter cliff on the southern side is Biaro. Dive sites around the island include Lamango which makes a great shallow night dive, The Labyrinth where volcanic lava flows make up the stunning topography, Sweetlip City which is a 20 meter deep reef with an abundance of Sweetlips, Bomb and Zaccharias Rocks which are submerged pinnacles to the north of the island with stunning coral cover and Kalokoki, a gently sloping reef with colourful soft corals.
